To participate any online activities, all Scouts must earn their Cyber Chip. Scouts who have already earned their Cyber Chip must have it “Recharged” as of the 2019-2020 School Year. Cyber Chip requirements vary by grade level with subject matter designed for grades 4 and 5, 6-8, and 9-12. Scouts are required to earn their Cyber Chip for their current grade and then recharge them annually either by reviewing additional content for their current grade group or by completing the next grade level group’s initial requirements. It is important that ALL of the boys have a current Cyber Chip asap as working on advancements during our time of social distancing will require more email and internet use than has previously been needed.
Parents and adult helpers, please be aware the boys will need your authorization to work on the Chip and use the internet. Please work closely with your Scout in completing and/or rechaging (updating) their Cyber Chip. Where Cyber Chip requirements reference working with a Scout Leader you may work with an adult family member. Where Cyber Chip requirements call for a Scout to teach Internet safety rules, behavior, and “netiquette” to your troop or another patrol, Scouts can substitute family members for the troop or another patrol.
Upon completion, Scouts should email our advancement coordinator Mrs. Nordhoek-Carlson. Scouts, please remember to always include TWO adults on any emailed communications to Troop 23 Leaders. The second adult can be your parent or another leader. Scouts who completed this requirements earlier this school year should also email Mrs. Nordhoek-Carlson to ensure this achievement is recorded on the Troop’s records. Scouts will not be able to participate in online learning activities without having a new Cyber Chip or “Recharged” Cyber Chip on file.
