New Scout Registration Packet
Checklist
The following fees and forms are required when your Scout joins Troop 23. Please pay fees to the Treasurer and turn in completed forms to the Membership Coordinator to register your Scout. Forms not online are available at the hallway table at your first meeting.
- Scouting membership dues (if not already registered)
- Troop 23 dues
- Transfer, or filled out Youth Application
- Health form (see below)
- Scout Information form
- Troop 23 Consent form
- Adult (parent) information form
- Optional: adult application
- A full uniform is required within 30 days of joining
- (Troop 23 provides one set of neckerchief, Troop numerals, and shoulder epaulets to new Scouts or adults)
- Scout Handbook (label with Scout’s name, and cover or Ziploc for campouts)
It is extremely important, although not mandatory, for first-year Scouts to attend summer camp. It is an opportunity to prepare them for a positive experience in Scouting. Attrition among first-year Scouts not attending summer camp is higher than Scouts who do attend summer camp. Please give your child a fair opportunity to achieve by sending them to summer camp.
New Scout families are welcome to make a deposit into their son’s personal Scout Account “bank” that can be used to pay grubmaster or other fees. Consider depositing $20 at a time and as needed, via check, cash, or Zelle (with Scout’s name identified). Every Fall, Scouts may fund their Scout Accounts through Christmas wreath sale commissions.
Youth Joining Troop 23
Transferring from another unit (Pack, Troop)

Your current unit admin(s) can use their my.scouting.org account to select one or more Scouts, and click the Transfer button.
Then search for Troop 23. We will be notified to “accept” the transfer; please allow a few days to process.
Currently, only youth members can transfer between units.
New to Scouting
If your child is not currently an active Scout, or the above doesn’t work, please fill out and sign a Scouts BSA Youth Application.
Scouting America Health Form
Health and Medical Record
Parts A&B can be filled out by a parent/guardian. Part C must be signed and dated by a doctor, and is not required except for long term campouts like Summer Camp or High Adventure, so can be filled out at any annual physical. Medical forms are valid for one year, inclusive (after June 1 last year is valid for summer camp this year).
We recommend filling out the PDF on your computer, and saving it filled out. Then in the future you can print and sign new copies as needed.
Some helpful notes:
Part A:
- DO NOT check the box beside “Checking this box indicates you DO NOT want your child to use a BB device” unless you want your Scout to be excluded from participating in activities using BB guns or other BB devices
- Mark the box beside “None” if there are no restrictions; or write in restrictions
- Be sure both parent and Scout have signed and dated in the box in the center of the page
Part B2: Allergy/Medications:
- Indicate if your child uses an Epi Pen or Asthma Rescue Inhaler
- List all medications your child routinely takes; OR check the box to indicate “no medications routinely taken”
- For “Non-prescription medication administration is authorized with these exceptions,” check Yes if you authorize the Troop to administer over-the-counter meds like ibuprofen, Tylenol, Benadryl, etc. if needed (may be generics)
- Provide the parent/guardian signature needed for that section
Part B2: Immunization:
- Write in the exact date of last tetanus shot (Tdap)
- Fill in immunization dates; or write “up to date” and attach an immunization record from your doctor
