A Message from our Senior Patrol Leader to Scouts and Families
I would like to take this opportunity to address the Troop as a whole. 2020 has been a whirlwind of events that none of us could have planned for. We have, and continue to, live through so much uncertainty in our daily lives. For us kids, when will we go back to school? When will I get to play my sport again? When can I go to the movies with my friends? For our parents, when will I go back to work? How will I make sure my kids are learning what they need to? Whether it be something big or small, if you or your families need anything during this time please do not hesitate to reach out. I view the Troop 23 community as a family and family looks out for one another.
With that being said, I am proud to announce that since March the Troop leadership team has worked tirelessly to keep scouting active in our lives. While zoom meetings may not have been the most ideal, I assure you that we did everything we could given our guidelines at the time. Our current goal is to bring the Troop back together in person while still adhering to social distancing guidelines. For the time being we will be meeting outdoors. While the location of our meetings is not set in stone for weeks to come, we will be meeting at Blackwell this Monday, August 31 from 6 to 7:30 pm. Face masks are required and shared Troop materials will be limited. This meeting will be an excellent opportunity for every scout to share ideas they may have regarding what they want scouting to look like this fall. Advancement will be offered and older scouts will be present to work with scouts under first class.
I will not deny that things are going to look different in the coming weeks. Scouts will change to ensure that we uphold the current public health and safety standards. With that being said, we are going to try and keep some routine from the past. That is why I am asking that all scouts and adults wear their full class A uniform. We will also open and close our meetings the same way we have in the past. Adults, please ensure that your scouts see this message. I am starting this position as senior patrol leader with an open mind. I sincerely hope that all of you will do the same. Please feel free to reach out to me or any other Troop leadership members if you have any questions. I look forward to working with all of you in the days, weeks and months to come.
Yours in Scouting,
Troop 23 SPL
